WEEKEND PASTORAL LETTER 20 MARCH 2022
Dear Brethren,
MEDITATION
And having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Ephesians 6:15
OBSERVATION AND INTERPRETATION
1. Feet shod
a) Preparation must be done first
b) Not many are committed to evangelism
2. Leaving the work to so-called “evangelist” is so wrong
a) The context is that of a soldier for the Lord
b) This text does not specify that evangelism is for those who are supposed to be
“gifted”
3. Preparation is of vital significance
a) Look at the example of the Lord Jesus Christ
b) Evangelism was in His heart, right from the start
c) Ponder this text:
8 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-19
4. An understanding of the Text:
a) The Anointing of the Spirit of God
i) This is of vital significance
ii) We need to be Spirit-filled!
b) Look at the breadth of scope for Evangelism
i) The Poor
To preach the gospel to the poor;
ii) The broken-hearted
He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted,
iii) The Captives
To proclaim liberty to the captives
iv) The Blind
And recovery of sight to the blind
v) The Oppressed
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
c) The means
i) Preaching
ii) Proclaiming
APPLICATION TO LIFE AND MINISTRY
1. Evangelism cannot be neglected
2. Let us do this work faithfully and skilfully
Prayerfully,
Pastor Charles Tan
